What's the difference between "Webcast" "Webinar" and "Web Conference"

Originally "Web Conference" was the general term for anything that involved showing PowerPoint slides (or similar) over the internet in real-time. This developed to other features (eg sharing your desktop and Text Chat functions). This and similar technology was then used for Webcasting and Webinars. You could split them roughly into 3 types as follows

Web Cast

One-to-many 'broadcast via the web' of a presentation/documents/video content, usually with sound as well. This is one-way, ie participants don't interact with the presenter(s).

Web Conferencing

Generic term for any software that allows you to show what's on your computer to someone else via the internet in real-time. It's now taken to describe group meetings where the participants are in different locations, but can all view the same desktop/documents/presentation. In the context of a Webinar or Webcast, a Web Conference is usually a smaller number of people, who may even collaborate and take turns in editing the documents or presentations.
